- Save copies of your ticket, police report and consular correspondence.
Russian consular offices
| City | Office | Official source |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | Consular section of the Russian Embassy | vietnam.mid.ru |
| Da Nang | Consulate General of Russia | rusconsdanang.mid.ru |
| Ho Chi Minh City | Consulate General of Russia | rusconshcm.mid.ru |
Use the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directory to confirm which office handles your location and to check current hours and contact details. This guide does not reproduce phone numbers because consular contacts and appointment procedures can change.
Certificate of Return to Russia
The consular office decides which document can be issued and what evidence it needs. Ask for the current application form, appointment method, photographs, proof of Russian citizenship and any available copy of the lost passport. The SVR is intended for a single return to Russia. It is not a general passport for travelling to Thailand or another country.
| Your goal | Document route to confirm | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Return to Russia soon | SVR and Vietnamese exit formalities | For return, not onward travel to a third country |
| Stay in Vietnam longer | New international passport and appropriate immigration steps | SVR does not replace a regular passport |
| Travel to another country | A valid travel document accepted by that destination | Do not assume the SVR works as a normal passport |
Documents to prepare
- Police report for a theft, where available.
- Any copy or photo of the lost passport, plus other proof of identity or citizenship.
- Vietnam visa, entry stamp or other immigration records.
- Passport photos and application materials requested by the consulate.
- Flight booking details and a reachable phone number or email address.
Vietnam exit and immigration steps
A Russian return document does not automatically complete Vietnam's exit procedure. Ask Vietnamese immigration or the consulate what record must be updated after the lost passport and how long it takes. Do not assume your current visa record transfers automatically to the SVR. Keep written confirmation of the departure steps.
If the passport was stolen with your phone or wallet
Use a trusted device to block the phone and payment accounts. Change email and banking passwords if they were accessible from the phone. Ask your hotel, employer or travel companion to help with calls and copies. Do not send full passport scans or bank credentials to an unverified social-media account.
Before you travel
Carry a separate copy of your passport, visa and insurance details. Keep the embassy and consulate information offline. Store the physical passport securely and carry a copy when local rules and circumstances allow.
Questions and answers
Can I fly using a photo of my passport?
No. A photo is not a travel document. Ask the consulate and airline which document will be accepted.
What is the SVR for?
It is a one-way document for return to Russia, subject to consular issuance and Vietnam's exit process.
Can I use the SVR to fly to Thailand?
Do not rely on it for travel to a third country. It is intended for return to Russia.
Where do I go first if my passport was stolen?
Get to safety, report the theft to local police and contact the Russian consular office responsible for your location.
Do I need a separate Vietnam exit procedure?
Confirm it with Vietnamese immigration. The return certificate does not automatically resolve your Vietnam immigration record.
