Emergency numbers in Vietnam: police, fire and ambulance

Save Vietnam's emergency numbers before you need them. Call 113 for police, 114 for fire, 115 for an ambulance, 112 for national incidents and rescue, and 111 for child protection. UK government travel advice says emergency calls are handled in Vietnamese, so give the location first and ask someone nearby to translate.

The national 112 line operates around the clock and is linked to 113, 114 and 115. Calls are handled in Vietnamese according to current UK travel advice. If you do not speak Vietnamese, show a written address and ask a hotel worker, shopkeeper or local resident to help with the call.

What to say on the call

  1. Give the street, building name, ward and nearest landmark first.
  2. Say which service you need: police, fire or ambulance.
  3. Describe the incident and number of injured people in short phrases.
  4. Give your callback number and keep the phone line open.
  5. Send your location pin to someone nearby and ask them to meet responders.

If you are in a motorbike crash

Move away from traffic only if it is safe to do so. Call 115 for serious injury and 113 if police assistance is needed. Do not remove a helmet from an injured rider unless there is immediate danger. Photograph the scene and vehicle details when safe, and request a police report. Contact your insurer and keep hospital records and receipts.

If your passport, phone or money is stolen

Move to a safe place. For a theft, report it to the local police and ask for a written report. Contact your bank or wallet provider to block cards and accounts. If your passport is missing, contact the relevant embassy or consulate and follow its replacement or return-document process. Do not post passport scans or bank details in public groups.

For an urgent medical problem

Call 115 for an ambulance when the condition is life-threatening or the person cannot safely travel. Contact your insurer's assistance line if your policy requires it, but do not delay urgent care to request approval. Keep the policy number, passport copy, diagnosis, invoices and prescriptions.
