The applicant chooses the type. A second valid Russian passport can be issued as a 10-year biometric passport, subject to the law. Ho Chi Minh City requires applicants to bring the printed application with its QR code and original documents. Children must attend in person.

Documents for your appointment

The exact set depends on the applicant’s age and document history. Use the Foreign Ministry’s general list together with the Ho Chi Minh City consulate’s local instructions. Its passport page asks applicants to bring the printed QR-coded application, original documents and, where possible, copies.

  • Completed application for the passport type you selected.
  • Russian internal passport, if available, and current foreign passport or passports.
  • Documents confirming a name change, if relevant.
  • For a child, the child’s documents and legal representative’s documents. The child must attend.
  • Information about a lost passport, following the consulate’s instructions.
  • Printed forms, QR code, originals and copies in the format required locally.

If you have no valid Russian internal or foreign passport, ask whether citizenship verification is needed before applying for a new document.

Payment and processing time

In Ho Chi Minh City, the consular fee is paid at a Vietcombank branch using the payment form issued after the documents are reviewed. The consulate advises applicants not to pay before the documents have been checked. Verify the current fee and instructions on its official page.

Passport processing takes up to three months after a complete application is submitted. Appointment waiting time is separate. The consulate says expedited processing is not available. A completed passport must be collected in person in Ho Chi Minh City; postal delivery is not offered.

Check status and collect the passport

Use the Foreign Ministry’s status service to check a biometric passport. The Ho Chi Minh City consulate requires collection in person by the applicant or legal representative with identity documents. Confirm the current collection hours before travelling.
