How to book a passport appointment
- Open the Hanoi Consular Section’s online appointment queue.
- Choose the passport service and enter the applicant’s details.
- Confirm the request and check your email for any verification step.
- Save the appointment confirmation and bring the documents and printouts listed by the Embassy.
If the queue shows no dates, follow the portal’s waiting-list rules. The Embassy does not guarantee how long it will take to get a slot. Avoid advice that claims to know the exact time when new appointments appear.
Five-year or ten-year passport
| Type | Validity | Application portal |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 5 years | passportzu.kdmid.ru |
| Biometric | 10 years | zp.midpass.ru |
Russian citizens abroad may choose either type. A second valid passport is issued as a 10-year biometric passport under the applicable rules. Ask the Consular Section which printouts and supporting documents it currently requires.
What documents should I prepare
Complete the application using the Foreign Ministry’s portal for your selected passport type. Use both the general Foreign Ministry checklist and the Hanoi Consular Section’s current instructions. Photo, copy and printout requirements can vary by passport type and applicant.
- Application for the selected passport type.
- Russian internal passport, if available, and any current foreign passport.
- Documents confirming a change of name, if applicable.
- The child’s and legal representative’s documents for a minor’s application.
- Information about a lost passport, following the Consular Section’s instructions.
- Photos, copies and printed forms only in the format required by the current local checklist.
If all Russian identity documents are expired or lost, ask the Consular Section whether it must verify your citizenship before accepting a passport application.
Processing time, fees and status
The Russian Foreign Ministry sets a maximum processing period of three months after all correctly prepared documents have been submitted. This is not the time from the day you join the queue; appointment waiting time is separate.
The Foreign Ministry provides an online status check for biometric passports. The Embassy lists passport collection during consular hours, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 09:00 to 12:00. Check whether collection requires a separate appointment.
