At a press conference introducing Rail&Cons Industry Week 2026 on November 5, Tran Dinh Tung, chairman of the Vietnam Society of Construction Engineers (VSCE), stressed the need to connect stakeholders in construction and railway infrastructure.
Tung said Vietnam is preparing to implement several large railway projects, making cooperation among engineers, experts, scientists, companies and investors increasingly important. "These connections are not only an opportunity to develop transport infrastructure, but also create the possibility of forming a domestic railway industry," Tung said.
Five tasks for the industry
For domestic companies to move deeper into the value chain, the railway industry must address five main tasks: developing a skilled workforce, building a local supply chain, improving the ability to master technology and construction processes, raising capital for large projects, and building a data system and technical standards.
All five issues are fundamental and require coordinated participation from different stakeholders. Companies cannot build their capabilities without skilled personnel. Expanding domestic production is also difficult while supply chains and access to technology remain limited.
Tung said cooperation in the industry should not stop at exhibitions, product presentations or exchanges of experience. More important is identifying practical problems in projects and then connecting them with the right companies, experts and organizations capable of proposing solutions.
These topics will be discussed in specialist sessions covering financing for metro and TOD projects, the use of science and technology in infrastructure construction, the commercialization of technical solutions and the development of Vietnam's engineering workforce.
The forum on financing for metro and TOD projects will include experts from Spain and Finland, as well as representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City International Financial Centre.
The exhibition is expected to include organizations and industrial groups from Vietnam, China, Germany and South Korea. They will present technologies for locomotives, carriages, signaling and telecommunications systems, new materials, building information modeling (BIM), artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin technology.
