People approached the coffins one by one and quietly remembered those who had fallen.
Hoang Minh Chuong, 72, a veteran of the Dong Xoai unit and Construction Site 9, touched each coffin with emotion. The remains had been found and gathered at Le Thi Rieng Park. He said that every person found and returned gives another comrade a chance to reunite with family and fellow soldiers after many years on the battlefield.
“I was fortunate to survive and return from the war, but many comrades remain there, and many have still not been found. That has troubled me for many years. The 500-day-and-night campaign to search for our comrades is deeply meaningful. We always hope to find soldiers from earlier generations and our comrades and bring them home after many years underground,” Chuong said.
