The Phu Tho Provincial Police Investigation Agency opened a case and charged Chu Van Doan, 43, and Bui Thi Hien, 50, with violating food safety regulations.

Police said that on July 28, after receiving information from residents, police in Vinh Hung Commune inspected Chu Van Doan's facility, which produced dried meat and lap xuong, a Vietnamese sausage. The facility could not provide a food safety eligibility certificate, required product self-declaration documents, or proof of the origin of some goods. Many products did not have the labels required by regulations.

Investigators determined that in July Doan bought about 750 kg of pork with discolored meat and a bad smell from Bui Thi Hien to process into dried pork and lap xuong.

Testing of a raw meat sample found it positive for African swine fever virus.

Police serve Chu Van Doan with the decision to charge him.

A sample of powder suspected to be a food additive that was seized at the facility also contained colorants not included on the list of permitted food additives.

Police said officers temporarily seized 225 kg of dried pork, 165 kg of raw meat, dried buffalo and chicken products, lap xuong, and other related items and documents during the inspection. The total assessed value of the property exceeded 96 million Vietnamese dong.
