VinMetal, a company within Vingroup, announced that it had signed a contract with Italian industrial group Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche S.p.A. to supply core equipment for a rail and structural steel rolling line at the VinMetal steel complex in Ha Tinh province. Under the contract, Danieli will design, manufacture, supply and commission the core equipment for a line with capacity of more than 700,000 tonnes a year.
The line is part of VinMetal's plan to develop rail and structural steel products. The company aims to supply materials for high-speed and urban railway projects, industrial facilities, bridges, ports and logistics infrastructure in Vietnam.
According to the group of billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, rail steel production requires strict technical specifications, including geometric accuracy, straightness, mechanical strength and wear resistance. Structural steel must meet requirements for cross-section and load-bearing capacity.
Danieli is an Italian metallurgical technology group with more than 100 years of experience. It has delivered more than 1,000 projects involving steelmaking, casting and rolling lines around the world. Danieli has supplied technology and equipment to major steelmakers including Voestalpine in Austria, Mechel in Russia and Rocky Mountain Steel Mills in the United States.
Danieli describes sustainable development and ESG compliance as strategic directions for its work. The group's official materials discuss metallurgical technology, carbon-emissions reduction, corporate governance and social responsibility.
Danieli's consolidated sustainability report for the 2024–2025 financial year, published in September 2025, set quantitative targets for reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. The group also said it aims to achieve climate neutrality across its entire value chain by 2050.
In rail steel, Danieli develops technologies for rail rolling, precision finishing and rail-head hardening. These are intended to control product dimensions, mechanical properties, wear resistance and service life.
According to Vingroup, the cooperation with Danieli is part of a plan to develop domestic capacity for specialised steel production. The company links the project to supplying materials for major infrastructure projects and reducing dependence on imported materials.
VinMetal is developing a steel complex in the Vung Ang Economic Zone in Ha Tinh province. The project is designed for an initial capacity of about 6 million tonnes of steel a year, with plans to increase it to 20 million tonnes a year in the second phase.
In May 2026, VinMetal signed a memorandum of cooperation with Primetals Technologies. Under the agreement, Primetals became the overall technology integration partner and would coordinate technology solutions from ironmaking and steelmaking to finished-steel rolling.
The Danieli contract adds another technology partner to Vingroup's steel project in Ha Tinh. Danieli's work will focus on the rail and structural steel production line for infrastructure projects.
