Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade gave an update on the negotiations at its regular third-quarter press briefing in Hanoi on October 7.

Ngo Chung Khanh, deputy director of the ministry's Department of Foreign Market Development and Multilateral Trade, said the two countries had held seven official negotiation rounds since April 2025, along with numerous ministerial and technical-level sessions.
The two sides have essentially completed almost all negotiating content. A few technical issues still require discussion and clarification, Khanh said. He expressed hope that the talks would conclude soon with close coordination from relevant US agencies, particularly the Office of the US Trade Representative.
Khanh said the US is one of Vietnam's major trading partners and is highly important to the country's exports. He added that the agreement would help create a stable and balanced framework for trade and open further opportunities for cooperation.
