The ministry's report lists 18 lines and sections with a combined length of 979 km for Hanoi and 28 projects covering 1,024 km for Ho Chi Minh City.

Work has begun on 11 of Hanoi's 18 projects. Eight sections are under construction and three are in preparation. The projects under construction include sections of Line 3.1 from Nhon to Hanoi Station, Line 2.1 from Nam Thang Long to Tran Hung Dao Street, and Line 5 from Van Cao Street to the Hoa Lac satellite urban area.

Construction began in June on five more sections. They include two sections of Lines 1 and 2 linking Hung Vuong Stadium with Noi Bai Airport, Line 8 from Hoa Lac to Duong Xa Commune, Line 14 from Thang Long Bridge to Ocean Park, and Loop Line 10 between Co Loa Commune and Times City. The target for completing these sections is 2030.

In Ho Chi Minh City, eight of the 28 planned lines and sections have priority for completion by 2030. Construction has started on two of the three sections of Line 2, which will connect Ben Thanh Market with the Tham Luong and Thu Thiem areas. Feasibility studies are being prepared for the other six projects.

The Ministry of Construction will work with other agencies and the two city authorities on planning, technical standards, funding, site clearance and investment procedures.
