On the evening of November 1, Nguyễn Văn Hưng, chairman of the Cẩm Thành ward People's Committee, told Thanh Niên that local authorities had proposed that the Quang Ngai provincial People's Committee issue a fine against the Bà Được banh mi outlet at 12 Duy Tân Street. The proposal concerns the outlet's connection to a food poisoning incident that affected 175 people.
On October 27, at the cultural centre of residential group 12 in Cẩm Thành ward, the Bà Được outlet began paying compensation to 175 people who suffered food poisoning after eating banh mi bought at the Duy Tân Street outlet. However, the payments have not been completed, so the owner has not yet reported the total compensation amount to local authorities.

Earlier, according to a report by the Quang Ngai provincial Food Safety Authority, many people who bought and ate filled banh mi at the Bà Được outlet in Cẩm Thành ward later developed unusual health symptoms.
At about 3 p.m. on October 9, the first patient developed severe abdominal cramps, repeated diarrhoea, vomiting and a fever. Other people later developed similar symptoms and had to receive emergency care and treatment at medical facilities.

On October 16, the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang announced the test results for 13 food samples linked to the suspected food poisoning incident after people ate banh mi in Cẩm Thành ward. Salmonella was found in 12 of the 13 samples.
