Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will visit Laos and Cambodia at the invitation of the two countries' prime ministers. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong discussed the trips in an interview ahead of the visits.

Aims of the visits

The Prime Minister will travel to Laos on October 8–9 and Cambodia on October 9–10. Cuong said these will be Hung's first official visits to both countries. In Laos, he will discuss cooperation with Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith after the latter's election as head of government. In Cambodia, the talks will come four months after Prime Minister Hun Manet's official visit to Vietnam.

The sides will discuss existing agreements and practical measures in trade, investment, tourism and infrastructure connectivity. Education, human resources, science and technology, and people-to-people ties will also be covered.

Trade and investment

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Laos reached about 3 billion USD in 2025, up 32% from 2024. Vietnamese companies have about 300 projects in Laos with registered capital of around 7.04 billion USD.

Vietnam–Cambodia trade reached 11.33 billion USD in 2025, up 11.7% year on year. Vietnam has 223 investment projects in Cambodia worth nearly 3.4 billion USD.

Vietnam aims to raise two-way trade with Laos to 10 billion USD and with Cambodia to 20 billion USD. The visits are expected to help the sides agree on concrete steps to reach these targets.
