Vietnam regularly reviews progress and removes obstacles to keep agreements on track, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said. He added that Vietnam is strengthening coordination between the National Assembly and the Government so the parliaments can refine legal frameworks and oversee projects.
Hung met Sonexay in Hanoi on November 3 during the Lao official's first visit to Vietnam in his new role. The Prime Minister said Vietnam gives top priority to Laos and will work closely with the Lao Government and agencies to turn high-level commitments into concrete programmes and projects.
Hung welcomed Sonexay's visit, saying it reflected the attention that the leaders of the two Parties and States give to bilateral ties and strengthened political trust, connections between leaders and cooperation between the two legislatures. He also thanked Laos for the warm reception given to him and his delegation during their official visit in October.
Hung congratulated Laos on its achievements in implementing the Resolution of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, maintaining political stability and public order and safety, and promoting economic growth. He praised the Lao National Assembly's work and said its 10th-tenure leadership would improve legislation, supreme oversight and decision-making on major national issues.
The Prime Minister said Vietnam regularly reviews the implementation of agreements and removes obstacles. He called for closer coordination between the parliaments and governments so they can refine legal frameworks and oversee projects. He described the two NAs' joint oversight mechanism for high-level agreements and strategic cooperation projects as an important step towards better implementation and stronger strategic trust.
Hung called for breakthroughs in trade, investment and economic cooperation, more concrete strategic cohesion, balanced and sustainable trade, market expansion, business links and shared supply and value chains.
The Vietnamese Government will work with Laos on infrastructure, energy and digital transformation. The two sides will prioritise transport, seaport, border-gate and logistics links to support trade, investment and regional connectivity, as well as improve education, training and the workforce.
The two sides will expand people-to-people exchanges and coordinate activities under the Vietnam-Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship 2027. Hung said this would help people in both countries, especially younger generations, learn more about their tradition of solidarity and friendship.
Sonexay congratulated Vietnam on its major achievements, particularly positive socio-economic results during the first 10 months of 2026. He expressed confidence that Vietnam would continue to grow strongly and achieve the targets set in the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress.
The Lao National Assembly President briefed Hung on the situation in Laos and the assembly's activities since the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. He said Laos always remembers and values Vietnam's support during its national liberation and in its current construction, defence and development.
The Lao NA will continue working closely with its Vietnamese counterpart and accompany both governments in implementing high-level agreements, cooperation accords and major economic projects. Sonexay called the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos an invaluable asset and an important foundation for stability and development in both countries.
Laos will continue coordinating with Vietnam on global and regional issues, increasing information sharing and coordinating positions at multilateral mechanisms, including ASEAN. Sonexay said this would contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
The host and guest said that the strong political determination of the leaders of the two Parties and States, together with close coordination among agencies, localities, businesses and people, would keep bilateral ties substantive, effective and sustainable. They said this would meet the aspirations of the two peoples and contribute to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
