On November 3, after an official welcoming ceremony, Chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly Tran Thanh Man held talks with Chairman of Laos's National Assembly Sonexay Siphandone.
Vietnam and Laos to expand parliamentary cooperation
The two chairmen welcomed the positive development of bilateral relations and agreed to implement high level agreements, bilateral cooperation documents and the Vietnam Laos Cooperation Strategy for 2021 to 2030.
They agreed to increase delegation exchanges and contacts, use cooperation mechanisms more effectively, and promote education about the tradition of special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos, especially among young people.
The chairmen praised exchanges of delegations, experience in lawmaking and oversight, decisions on important national matters, and cooperation at regional and international parliamentary forums.
They described parliamentary cooperation as an important part of overall relations. It helps strengthen the legal foundation, oversee high level agreements and turn agreements between the two parties and states into practical work.
The sides will continue exchanging experience in legislation, state organization, local administration and oversight of major programs and projects.
They will expand cooperation in digital transformation, building an electronic parliament and applying new technologies. They will also review the cooperation agreement signed in May 2022 and consider signing an updated document in 2027.
The sides will help businesses expand investment, address difficulties in joint projects and develop cooperation in education, human resources, science and technology, healthcare, culture and people to people exchanges.
Transport, ports, border gates and logistics projects to receive priority
On the same day, Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Sonexay Siphandone. He praised a joint oversight mechanism for high level agreements and strategic projects, saying it strengthens implementation and strategic trust.
Le Minh Hung called for faster economic, trade and investment cooperation, balanced and sustainable trade, wider markets, business links and shared supply and value chains.
He said Vietnam would continue working with Laos on infrastructure, energy and digital transformation, with priority for transport, seaports, border gates and logistics.

The sides will develop education, human resources, people to people exchanges and activities for the 2027 Vietnam Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship.
Sonexay Siphandone said Laos would continue working with Vietnam on high level agreements, cooperation treaties and major economic projects, and coordinate positions on shared issues in multilateral mechanisms, including ASEAN.
The leaders expressed confidence that Vietnam Laos relations would develop in a practical, effective and sustainable way, serving both peoples and contributing to peace, stability and development.
