The Quang Tri provincial Border Guard, working with other agencies, arrested three people linked to a network that stored, sold and transported fireworks from Laos to Vietnam.
On the morning of October 21, the Quang Tri Border Guard Command said the detainees were A May, 64, nicknamed the “border godfather”, Thao A Lam, 43, and Thao Do, 45. All three live in Savannakhet province, Laos.
On September 13, authorities cordoned off and inspected seven warehouses in the area of My Yen and Ma Hat villages in Sepon district, Savannakhet province. They seized 1,120 boxes of fireworks weighing about 30 tonnes in total.
When the authorities raided the warehouses, people linked to the group fled into the forest, taking advantage of the darkness, rain and difficult terrain.

On October 19, units from Vietnam and Laos arrested these people.
The Quang Tri Border Guard and Savannakhet police jointly destroyed all the seized materials. They are continuing to investigate and trace Lao and Vietnamese nationals involved in the case for legal action.
