On October 12, the Traffic Police said they were working with other authorities to verify the case and handle the driver. A rapid drug test was positive while he was travelling on the Ho Chi Minh - Trung Luong - My Thuan - Can Tho expressway.

According to initial information, at about 9 p.m. on October 10, near a toll station on the section of the expressway passing through Thanh Hung Commune in Dong Thap Province, Traffic Police Group No. 4 stopped a car with registration number 65A-420.XX for inspection.

The driver was identified as V.H.D., 33, a resident of O Mon District in Can Tho City. The rapid test showed that he had used drugs.

Traffic police are continuing to verify the case and handle it together with Thanh Hung Commune Police in accordance with the law.

According to the same unit, since the beginning of 2026, authorities have found three drivers using drugs while driving on this expressway. One case was transferred to the authorities to begin criminal proceedings, while two drivers were given administrative penalties. The penalized drivers were placed under management and sent for drug addiction treatment in accordance with regulations.

Strengthening inspections and detecting drivers who use drugs while driving is considered a measure to prevent risks to road safety. This is especially important on expressways, where vehicles travel at high speed.
