Artificial intelligence is becoming more involved in Vietnamese film production. It can lower costs and shorten production time, but it also raises questions about jobs, intellectual property and legal responsibility.
AI and jobs
Nguyen Trong Khoa of RMIT Vietnam said using AI as support and using it to replace people have different consequences for industry workers. He supports AI to expand storytelling opportunities, but higher efficiency does not mean greater fairness.
AI can reduce costs and expand image experiments, but it can also narrow job opportunities and limit skill development. Risks grow when creative work is used without permission, workers' images or performances are reproduced without consent, or AI replaces people instead of supporting them.
Khoa said the issue is how technology is used and benefits are shared. Responsible use requires clear contracts, meaningful consent, fair compensation and opportunities to develop new skills.
Legal risks
AI raises intellectual-property issues, from training data to material used in films. Khoa said AI is not automatically illegal, but registering for a platform does not resolve every copyright issue. Lawyer Ha Thi Kim Lien of Phan Law Vietnam said authorship must be assessed case by case, based on human contribution and relevant law.

Using another person's work, image or voice without permission may infringe their rights. AI-generated content must be reviewed before use, and AI does not remove responsibility for violations.
CGV Vietnam content director Nguyen Hoang Hai said Decree 134/2026/ND-CP added provisions on copyright and related rights for objects created using AI. Important factors include human contribution, responsibility for legality and the absence of infringement.
Filmmakers should manage data, track intellectual-property origins, control content and follow film-distribution rules. AI can make production faster and less expensive, but it does not remove responsibility for source materials, creative choices or legality.
