Vietcombank warned customers about Coruna and DarkSword malware, which may exploit vulnerabilities in iOS to steal passwords, one-time codes and personal data. The bank said this poses a security risk.
The bank recommends updating the operating system to the latest version supported by Apple for the device, installing only necessary apps from trusted developers and reviewing the permissions they request. Users should not grant an app access to the screen, accessibility features, device management or configuration-profile installation when the purpose is unclear.
Users should also review the device and remove apps from unknown sources or apps they no longer use. No one should be given one-time codes, a PIN, password, card details or VCB Digibank login information, including anyone claiming to be a bank employee.
If suspicious signs appear or a device may be infected with malware, Vietcombank recommends restoring the factory settings. Customers should also call the bank at 1900 54 54 13 to request that digital-banking services and the card be blocked, then go to the nearest Vietcombank branch and report the case to the police if losses have occurred.
Agribank, BIDV and VietinBank had earlier also urged customers to update iOS to the latest version compatible with their devices. The measure is intended to reduce the risk of attacks through vulnerabilities on iPhones.
Google and iVerify had previously reported two sophisticated iPhone attack tools called Coruna and DarkSword. The tools combine several iOS vulnerabilities to enter devices running software without the corresponding security patch.
