On the evening of October 5, Vo Van Hanh, chairman of the Nam Can Commune People's Committee, confirmed that the attack took place in Hamlet 3 that afternoon.
According to authorities, the 39-year-old primary-school teacher picked up her daughters, aged 11 and 6, after school. When they reached home, a man carrying a knife chased and attacked them.
Nearby residents heard cries for help and reported the incident to the authorities. They could not stop the attacker because he was acting aggressively.
Nam Can commune police arrived and, with help from local residents, restrained the man. He was intoxicated when detained.
All three victims were taken to a medical facility. The six-year-old girl died at the hospital. Her mother and 11-year-old sister, who suffered serious injuries, were transferred to a higher-level hospital.
Local residents said the suspect knew the teacher. Police are investigating.
