Hanoi's Department of Education and Training will inspect collections and spending at educational institutions in October. It will take action or refer cases to the competent authorities when it finds violations.

Deputy Director Tran Luu Hoa gave the information at a press conference on Hanoi's socio-economic situation on October 5.

Hoa said the department issued several documents at the start of the school year to strengthen control over collections and spending at schools.

The head of each educational institution is responsible for school collections and spending. All payments must comply with the rules.

“Schools must not collect any payment outside the rules, collect money on behalf of the school, or use the name of a parent committee to collect improper payments,” Hoa said.

She also said the Ministry of Education and Training had recently issued a circular on parent committees. The department urged organisations and parents to continue monitoring the situation, work with schools and report violations.

For several schools that had been reported, the department has sent documents to communes and wards for checks under the division of authority. In October, it will prepare an inspection plan and form working teams.

The department intends to act within its authority or refer cases to the competent authorities. Its stated aim is to ensure compliance and reduce improper collections at schools.
