Ho Chi Minh City welcomes investors, including those from the US, and will create favourable conditions for them to expand their investment, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said while receiving a US business delegation on October 20.
The delegation was led by Kelly Coldiron, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Asia and Acting Executive Director of SelectUSA. She was visiting the city to explore investment opportunities.
Duoc welcomed the delegation’s choice of Ho Chi Minh City for investment cooperation. He said its members’ expertise in clean energy, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and the digital economy aligned with the city’s development priorities.
Following its merger, Ho Chi Minh City has expanded its development space, focusing on the knowledge-based and green economies, high-tech industries, services, international finance, the marine economy, tourism, clean energy and logistics. The Ba Ria–Vung Tau area is a key driver of the marine economy, particularly in coastal tourism, seaports, offshore wind power, and oil and gas.
Duoc expressed hope that the US businesses’ trip would open new opportunities for cooperation and that Ho Chi Minh City would succeed in attracting strong US investors in technology and clean energy.
Coldiron highlighted the potential for economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. She said the US is one of Vietnam’s important partners in economic development and digital transformation.
She said the US companies in the delegation specialise in high technology, energy, artificial intelligence and innovation. They could help develop the digital economy, information technology, telecommunications, artificial intelligence and semiconductor industries in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City by providing data centres, digital infrastructure, and advanced technologies and solutions.
Coldiron expressed hope that Ho Chi Minh City would attract more US-led projects and cooperation programmes. She said they would generate mutual benefits, support local socio-economic development, deepen the Vietnam–US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expand bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
