On November 3, the Traffic Police Department reported two crashes in which motorcyclists died. Both collisions happened on October 17 and involved vehicles parked at the edge of the road in the same direction of travel.
At about 10 p.m. on October 17, L.V.S., 26, from Dong Thap Province, was riding a motorbike on an unnamed road in Binh Nham neighborhood, Lai Thieu Ward.
There, his motorbike hit a tractor-trailer parked at the edge of the road in the same direction. He died at the scene.
Earlier, at about 8:20 p.m. that day, a similar crash occurred on Thanh Hoi 01 Street in Tan Khanh Ward.
N.P.H., 43, a Ho Chi Minh City resident, was riding a motorbike when he hit a vehicle parked at the edge of the road in the same direction.
He was taken to hospital after the crash but later died.

Authorities said both crashes occurred at night in areas where the street lighting was not working. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the exact causes.
Risk of crashes involving vehicles stopped or parked at night
Following the two crashes, the Traffic Police Department warned of the road safety risks posed by vehicles stopping or parking on the road, especially in poorly lit areas at night.
Car drivers should choose a suitable and safe place to stop or park without obstructing traffic. If a vehicle occupies part of the carriageway, the driver must take all warning measures required by regulations so other road users can see it from a distance.
Motorcyclists are advised to watch the road carefully, turn on their headlights in the dark, adjust their speed and keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead, including vehicles that are stopped or parked.
Drivers are also strongly advised not to drive after drinking alcohol.
