General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam met Nils Bulb, president of the Denmark and Vietnam Friendship Association, and several members in Copenhagen on October 20. Lam, on a state visit to Denmark, described them as close friends who supported Vietnam during its struggle for independence, freedom and reunification and during its current development. He said Vietnam values the Danish people's affection and support, and praised the association's role in strengthening ties.

Bulb said the association has been a bridge for mutual understanding and solidarity. For nearly 50 years it has organised cooperation activities. Its projects in Vietnam include community healthcare in rural and remote areas and assistance for vulnerable groups, especially women and children. It plans to expand health projects and promote educational exchanges, cultural activities and Vietnamese cuisine in Denmark.

Bulb pledged to strengthen cooperation with the Vietnam and Denmark Friendship Association and people to people exchanges, especially links between younger generations. Lam praised the contributions of association members and Danish friends who have supported Vietnam for half a century.

During the visit, Vietnam and Denmark upgraded relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Denmark became Vietnam's first such partner in Northern Europe and its second in the European Union. Lam called on the association to strengthen friendship, introduce Vietnam to the Danish public, develop cultural and educational exchanges and connect young people, organisations, agencies, businesses, universities and research institutes. He also called for cooperation in education, healthcare, environmental protection and sustainable development and support for children, women and vulnerable groups.
