On October 19 in Copenhagen, To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Vietnam, and First Lady Ngo Phuong Ly met Denmark's King Frederik X and Queen Mary.

King Frederik X noted that the visit coincides with the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1971, marking an important stage in their friendship and cooperation.

The king shared his feelings and memories of Vietnam from visits in 2009, 2011 and 2022. He also highlighted the Danish royal family's special connection with Vietnam, including the fond memories his late father, Prince Consort Henrik, had of the years he lived in Hanoi.

To Lam expressed his pleasure at making his first state visit to Denmark and congratulated the country on its development achievements. He praised Denmark's efforts to build a prosperous, modern country with a high quality of life, and its leadership in green development, innovation and social welfare.

To Lam said Vietnam attaches importance to its traditional friendship and wide-ranging cooperation with Denmark and wants to deepen the relationship. Denmark is one of Vietnam's important partners in Northern Europe and Europe.

To Lam said Vietnam appreciates Denmark's valuable support and assistance since diplomatic relations were established in 1971, including during the country's reconstruction and development, its reform and international integration, and its current green transition.

The two leaders welcomed the positive development of bilateral relations, especially since the countries established a comprehensive partnership in 2013 and a Green Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to expand. Danish companies including LEGO, Pandora and Carlsberg operate and grow their businesses in Vietnam, contributing to economic and social development, creating jobs, transferring technology and promoting green, sustainable growth.

To Lam highlighted King Frederik X's important contribution to Vietnam-Denmark relations. The king visited Vietnam in 2011, when he was the crown prince, for the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. His 2022 visit with Crown Princess Mary, now Denmark's queen, leading a Danish business delegation promoted cooperation on the green transition. The visits gave momentum to bilateral cooperation and helped prepare the ground for the Green Strategic Partnership established in 2023.

To Lam expressed his appreciation for the king, queen and Danish royal family for their close ties with Vietnam, attention to the country and positive contribution to bilateral relations.

King Frederik X agreed with To Lam's views on using the countries' complementary strengths and expanding cooperation in the economy, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, energy transition, green and marine economies, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges.

To Lam said he hoped the king would continue to support and encourage Danish businesses and organisations to expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam. The two sides said that beyond practical benefits, their relationship is strengthened by friendship, trust and ties between the two peoples built over generations.

To Lam praised the Danish royal family's role in promoting cultural and artistic exchanges and people-to-people connections. He said he hoped the two countries would continue to build on these values and make their friendship closer and deeper.

On the occasion, To Lam invited King Frederik X and Queen Mary to visit Vietnam soon to witness the country's strong changes and the increasingly broad development of relations between the two countries.
