A 14-year-old girl from Hà Tĩnh planned to travel about 450 km to Phú Thọ to meet a boy she knew online. A taxi driver noticed warning signs on the way and took her to police.

On October 4, Thành Sen Ward police in Hà Tĩnh said the driver had stopped the girl from travelling to Phú Thọ to meet the online contact.

On October 3, driver D.Đ.T., 30, from Thạch Xuân Commune, accepted a trip with the girl, P., 14, from Hà Huy Tập Ward. Phú Thọ is about 450 km from their starting point.

During the trip, the driver asked whether P. had received permission from her parents. She said she had and was travelling to Phú Thọ using the location sent by an online friend.

The driver saw something was wrong and asked to check the location on her phone. He found sensitive messages with an online contact.

The person had also sent links to harmful material and instructions for inappropriate acts.

The two referred to each other as husband and wife. The person sent a location in Phú Thọ and told P. where to go.

The driver contacted the person on Zalo but could not make a call. He considered the girl at risk and drove her to Thành Sen Ward police station.

Police verified the information, contacted her family and notified her mother, who came to take her home safely.

Police said the case warns of the risk of children being lured or approached through social media. Parents should guide children in using phones and social networks safely and watch for unusual signs.
