According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold front is weak and shifted eastward, so it will mainly bring scattered showers. Temperatures in northern and central Vietnam will fall slightly, but the weather is not expected to turn distinctly cold.
On October 20, forecaster Pham Thi Thanh Hoa said that the northern region and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue would remain sunny during the day, with rain in some places in the evening and at night. Areas from Da Nang to Lam Dong and the south would be cloudy, with scattered rain and locally heavy rain.
From October 21, a weak cold front will strengthen over Vietnam. Because it is weak and shifted eastward, it will mainly cause scattered showers, while temperatures in the north will fall slightly without a clear change to cold weather.
On October 21–22, the northeastern region and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue are expected to have scattered showers and local thunderstorms. The weather will be affected by the weak cold front and easterly to southeasterly winds at an altitude of about 1,500–5,000 metres.
Rainfall will be limited and the affected area will be narrow, so temperatures in these areas will fall by only 1–2°C. After October 22, the rain will ease and temperatures are expected to rise again toward the weekend.
“This cold front is unlikely to end the prolonged sunny weather in the north,” Pham Thi Thanh Hoa said.
In areas from Da Nang to Lam Dong and in the south, weakening disturbances in the easterly wind belt may still bring scattered thunderstorms on October 21–22. Lam Dong and the south may see locally heavy rain in the afternoon and evening.
From October 23, weather in these areas will gradually improve. Rain will ease quickly and remain in only a few places.
