On October 17, the leader of La Da commune People's Committee in Lam Dong said that forces were clearing soil and rocks that had spilled onto National Highway 55 because of heavy rain.
Heavy rain had continued in the commune that afternoon. Water flowed down from upstream into the Da Chos stream, carrying soil and rocks onto National Highway 55 near Da Mi 1 hamlet in La Da commune and burying dozens of metres of the road surface.
Floodwater entered some residents' homes and damaged property including refrigerators, washing machines and motorbikes.
At around 9 p.m. that day, the section of National Highway 55 near Da Mi 1 hamlet remained blocked by soil and rocks covering the road.
During the night, the La Da commune People's Committee mobilized military and police forces to clear the debris and help residents deal with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
