The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said northern Vietnam will be affected by a weak cold air mass moving east from the night of November 5 through November 6. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas.
Around November 8–9, a stronger cold air mass may move into the north. It is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms and cause a significant drop in temperatures.
Because of the cold air, minimum temperatures in northern Vietnam and the northern part of Central Vietnam are generally expected to reach 16–19°C. Some mountainous areas in the north could fall below 13°C. The weather will turn cool, with colder conditions in the mountains.
According to the US weather service AccuWeather, Hanoi temperatures will range from 21°C to 31°C through the end of the week. After the stronger cold air arrives, temperatures in the city could fall to 18–25°C.
In high mountain areas above 1,500 meters, including Sa Pa in Lao Cai Province, temperatures are expected to range from 14°C to 19°C in the coming days. As the cold air strengthens, the minimum temperature there could fall to about 9°C.
From November 9 to 12, widespread heavy rain may occur from Thanh Hoa to Hue, in Da Nang, and in eastern areas of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak.
The forecast attributes the risk to a combination of strong low-level cold air, an easterly wind disturbance at altitude, and the terrain of Central Vietnam. These conditions may support the development of heavy rain.
