Construction of the U Bò – Thác Chuối Lake tourism complex began in Quang Tri on October 30. Covering about 167.48 hectares, the project includes two main tourism zones linked by five cable-car lines and is planned to serve about 5 million visitors a year after completion. Some have compared it with a second Ba Na, but it will be located in Quang Tri.

Sun Group began construction of the U Bò mountain and Thác Chuối Lake ecological tourism, resort and entertainment complex in Bo Trach, Thuong Trach and Truong Son communes in Quang Tri Province.

The project has total investment of VND16.234 trillion and covers about 167.48 hectares. It is planned as a destination for tourism, resorts, entertainment, nature experiences and local culture.

Under the plan, the project has two main zones. The Thác Chuối Lake zone will include lakeside resorts, a 950-room hotel, resort villas, a pedestrian street, commercial services, an art and culture museum, an outdoor theater, a traditional market and a floating food area.

The U Bò peak zone is at an elevation of about 1,009 meters. Plans call for resorts, wellness facilities, mountain landscape experiences, high-end accommodation, an observation deck, walking paths and a mountain railway.

The two zones will be connected by five cable-car lines, creating a route from the lake to the mountain peak.

The project is expected to be carried out in four phases through the second quarter of 2037. The investor aims to complete some infrastructure and the first cable-car line in the second quarter of 2028. Once complete, the complex is planned to serve about 5 million visitors a year and create more than 3,000 direct jobs and thousands of livelihood opportunities for local residents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dang Minh Truong, chairman of Sun Group's board, said that from Ba Na and Fansipan to Phu Quoc, the group had shown that remote mountains and islands could become leading destinations in Asia while forests and local heritage were preserved. "We have brought that experience to U Bò. The project will add a large-scale tourism product that Quang Tri is still missing, create jobs and livelihoods for local people, and provide sustainable revenue for the province," he said.

The Quang Tri People's Committee said the project is outside Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, in its buffer zone, and is separated from the park's core zone by the western branch of the Ho Chi Minh Highway. Investment preparation followed regulations on investment, land, forestry, the environment and heritage.

Bui Hoang Phuong, chairman of the Quang Tri People's Committee, said the province had carefully prepared the project from the beginning. He said its guiding principle was to develop tourism while preserving heritage, landscapes and the environment and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for local residents.

He added that the province had handed Sun Group a "precious gem" given to it by nature. Its value, he said, lay not only in its natural beauty but also in its major development potential. With the right investment and use, the site could bring substantial value to Quang Tri, Sun Group and the country. The province hopes to gradually turn U Bò – Thác Chuối Lake into a new tourism symbol for Quang Tri, with national and international reach.
