On November 4, Trần Thị Minh Trinh, the owner of Bà Chín restaurant in Nghĩa Giang commune, Quang Ngai, said she had posted an apology to customers and local residents on her personal page.
She apologized to customers who had trusted, chosen and supported the restaurant, and to Quang Ngai residents if the recent information had upset them.
In the post, Trinh said the restaurant had received many messages and comments. Whatever the cause of the incident, she wrote, Bà Chín sincerely apologized if it had given people a negative impression or left them dissatisfied.
The owner said she did not want to use words to justify or debate who was right or wrong. The restaurant wanted to continue proving its quality, service attitude and sincerity through its work.
“Once again, the restaurant bows its head to apologize and offers its deep thanks to passengers, coach operators and the people of Quang Ngai. We hope everyone will understand and give us another chance to serve and improve,” Trinh wrote.
The 640,000-dong bill
Dân trí had previously reported that driver N.V.Đ. posted a complaint about Bà Chín restaurant in driver groups. The restaurant is on the access road to the Da Nang to Quang Ngai Expressway in Nghĩa Giang commune.
He said a group of four stopped there for lunch. The meal included half a boiled chicken, braised pork with eggs, mustard greens soup with meat, boiled sweet potato leaves and white rice. After eating, he was surprised to receive a bill for 640,000 dong: 300,000 dong for the chicken, 150,000 dong for the braised pork with eggs, 80,000 dong for the soup, 60,000 dong for the boiled sweet potato leaves and 50,000 dong for rice.
According to Đ., the restaurant staff had not told them the prices in advance. When he saw the 640,000-dong bill, he questioned the staff and an argument followed. The restaurant eventually agreed to charge 250,000 dong for the chicken instead.
Trinh said the chicken was kiến chicken bought in Nghĩa Hành commune, Quang Ngai. It was free-range chicken that cost up to 170,000 dong per kilogram. Each bird weighed more than 2kg. After cleaning and boiling, the restaurant sold it whole for 500,000 dong.
Inspection and fine
After media reports, the Nghĩa Giang People's Committee formed an inspection team to check Bà Chín restaurant. The team found that some prices were unclear and that the restaurant had charged customers 10,000 dong more per dish than the listed prices.
For these violations, the Nghĩa Giang People's Committee fined the restaurant owner more than 8.2 million dong.
