High tide flooded many roads and homes in southern Ho Chi Minh City, disrupting daily life and travel. Many residents stayed awake through the night to monitor the water and move their belongings.
Watching the water through the night
Residents at 136 Bùi Văn Ba prepared pumps, boards and boots as the tide approached its expected peak. Lanh, 65, said she had barely slept for three days. Water enters from the road and rises through the drainage system.
The water recedes, but the worry remains
After each tide, residents clean their homes, rearrange belongings and count repair costs. On October 12, the water reached knee height. The water will recede, but local residents still expect another rise.
