Donald Tusk

Donald Tusk was born on April 22, 1957, in Gdansk, Poland. From 2014 to 2019, he was president of the European Council and the first Polish politician to hold the position. In 2021, Tusk was formally elected chairman of the Civic Coalition party.

In December 2023, the Polish parliament elected him prime minister. It was his second term as the country's prime minister, after he led Poland from 2007 to 2014.

Vietnam-Poland cooperation

The traditional friendship between Vietnam and Poland is based on a long history, political trust and practical cooperation. Poland was one of the first European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, on February 4, 1950. It is also one of Vietnam's important trading partners in Central and Eastern Europe. Bilateral trade has continued to grow, especially since the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement took effect.

In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency correspondent, Vietnam's ambassador to Poland, Ha Hoang Hai, said Tusk's visit was taking place as relations between Vietnam and Poland were in a particularly good period, with favorable conditions for further development. He said the visit could promote practical economic, trade and investment cooperation, improve market access and remove barriers to goods from the two countries.

The two sides can use the opportunity to expand cooperation in areas with high added value, including digital technology, green energy, quantum technology and high-quality personnel training, the ambassador said. This would make use of the countries' complementary strengths, strengthen links between businesses and create a basis for sustainable development in Vietnam-Poland economic, scientific and technological relations.

Joanna Skoczek, Poland's charge d'affaires and head of its diplomatic mission in Hanoi, said Tusk's visit aims to identify and reaffirm the areas with the greatest potential for cooperation. They include education, trade, cooperation at international forums, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Skoczek also said several important documents are expected to be signed during the visit, helping strengthen the legal foundation for relations between the two countries.
