Passengers on tourist trains between Hue and Da Nang or Hue and Phong Nha can receive a 50% discount on admission to five sites in the Complex of Hue Monuments for seven days after their journey. Vietnam Railways Corporation announced the programme on November 3.

The incentive was introduced under Plan No. 10/KH-UBND issued by the Hue city People’s Committee. The plan aims to develop tourism, promote railway travel and encourage visitors to stay longer in the city.

The discount applies at the Imperial City of Hue, the Museum of Royal Antiquities and the tombs of Kings Thieu Tri, Duc Duc and Dong Khanh. It is available to domestic and international visitors with valid tickets for the Hue to Phong Nha tourist railway service in either direction or the Hue to Da Nang tourist train.

The discount is valid for seven consecutive days from the travel date shown on a paper or electronic ticket. Each ticket gives its holder a 50% discount for one visit to one of the five monuments.

Visitors eligible for several incentive programmes will receive the highest available discount. Different fee reduction programmes cannot be combined.

The railway sector is working with the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre to share passenger data and verify tickets at the monuments.

The central tourist railway route between Hue and Da Nang began operating in early 2024. The journey takes about three hours. The train passes scenic places including the Tam Giang and Cau Hai lagoon system, Lang Co Bay and Hai Van Pass. The route connects two cities with rich historical heritage and offers views of central Vietnam from the train windows.

The railway sector expects the programme to support tourism products that combine train travel with cultural heritage and encourage visitors to stay longer in the former imperial capital.

The route has also attracted international attention. On October 6, US travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler ranked the Hue to Da Nang route 10th on its list of the world’s 20 most beautiful train journeys for 2026. The Vietage by Anantara train linking Da Nang, Quy Nhon and Nha Trang ranked 14th.

Condé Nast Traveler said the value of such journeys lies not only in connecting destinations. They also give travellers a chance to view scenic landscapes, explore local culture and experience the journey itself as part of a holiday.
