Nha Trang has proposed a three-month pilot using unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor the central beach and high-risk waters and support rescues.

On October 25, at a seminar on opening the way to a new era of digital growth and building modern digital infrastructure with Khanh Hoa province, Duong Xuan Truong, business development director at FPT UAV of the FPT Group, presented a paper on the low-altitude space economy. He proposed introducing UAVs in Khanh Hoa as an early application.

FPT UAV proposed that the province run a three-month UAV pilot for monitoring and rescue. The pilot would cover about 10 kilometers of central Nha Trang beach and high-risk waters, in connection with a major event. It would be the first stage of a three-stage plan, intended to establish baseline data on response times, monitoring coverage and the number of incidents before the project is expanded.

According to Truong, the beach is long and informal swimming spots are scattered along it. There is almost no monitoring at night. When an incident occurs, reporting, deployment and searches take time, reducing the minutes available for rescue.

Under the proposed model, a UAV would depart from an automated docking station and use artificial intelligence to identify people in distress or children near dangerous waters. It would fly to the scene first, determine the coordinates and broadcast a warning through a loudspeaker, allowing rescuers to go directly to the site. At night, the UAV would use a thermal camera.

The tourism, natural resources and urban management sectors were assigned to study UAV applications in resource management, monitoring construction order in marine and island areas, and tourism promotion.
