Authorities in Long Thanh will strictly handle the use of unmanned aerial vehicles after Long Thanh Airport begins operations.
On October 24, Long Thanh International Airport said it would work with authorities in Long Thanh Ward, Dong Nai City, to establish a hotline and a permanent response team for incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) after the airport opens.
Long Thanh International Airport will coordinate with the ward People's Committee, the ward police and the Long Thanh Ward Military Command to operate a 24-hour duty line and respond promptly to UAV-related incidents.
The Long Thanh Ward People's Committee will work with the ward Military Command, the Southern Airports Authority and Long Thanh International Airport to establish a contact point and a 24-hour phone line. The agencies will share information immediately when a UAV is detected in the area.
The committee will also work with the ward Military Command and competent authorities to review and monitor UAV activity in the area within their assigned responsibilities. Information about organizations and individuals may be collected, compiled, managed or shared only when there is a legal basis, for a proper purpose and in compliance with personal data protection rules.
Earlier, the Long Thanh Ward People's Committee and Long Thanh International Airport signed coordination rules focused on aviation security and safety, incident response and preparations for bringing Long Thanh Airport into operation. After the rules were signed, local authorities were to compile a list of organizations and individuals who own UAVs in the area.
To protect the approach area outside the airport boundary, Long Thanh International Airport will work with relevant agencies to control the installation and use of lasers and high-powered lights within a radius of 18.5 km from the airport reference point (ARP). It will also coordinate inspections and action against material storage yards, construction sites, illegal dumping grounds and facilities that produce smoke or dust and reduce visibility in the approach areas at both ends of the runway.
