On October 31, Nguyen Hong Hai, standing vice chairman of the Lam Dong People's Committee, and officials from provincial departments inspected construction of the civil section of Phan Thiet Airport.
At the site, he asked Sun Phan Thiet Airport, the project investor, to add equipment and workers to meet the schedule. He also told contractors to ensure construction safety and quality and protect the environment. Provincial departments and Mui Ne authorities were asked to support the contractors in meeting the contract schedule.
Major facilities under accelerated construction
The airport terminal will cover about 16,000–18,000 square meters and is designed to handle 2 million passengers a year. The Lam Dong Department of Construction said that by October 26, piling for the passenger terminal had been completed, while foundation and ground-beam work on some axes was 68% complete.
Piling, foundation reinforcement and formwork for the air traffic control tower foundation had also been completed.

The tower will be 45 meters high and have 12 floors. Its operations building will cover 850 square meters and have three floors.
At the airfield, grading for the taxiway and apron was 63% complete, while grading for the landside area and auxiliary facilities was 60% complete. The drainage system was 60% complete. Earthworks at the H1 and H2 retention ponds were 90% complete, while the fence foundation and ground beams were 40% complete.
As of October 26, the site had about 50 dump trucks, 10 excavators, three rollers, four bulldozers, one piling machine, 30 engineers, 200 workers and six contractors.

The investment policy for the civil section of Phan Thiet Airport was approved on December 13, 2025. Sun Phan Thiet Airport, a member of Sun Group, was selected as the investor on March 4, 2026. The contract was signed on March 12, with a total implementation period of 21 months.
Under the contract, the investor has four months to complete legal procedures related to starting construction, counted from the signing of the contract and the handover or lease of the land.
Construction of the facilities and infrastructure is scheduled to take 12 months from the notice to start work. The following five months are allocated for inspection, completion and commissioning.
Construction began on April 27, 2026. The current pace therefore affects the deadlines for construction completion, inspection and opening.
The project includes a 170.5-by-455-meter aircraft apron with space for six aircraft and two 121.5-by-23-meter taxiways connecting to it. It will also include runway lights and signs, meteorological monitoring equipment and apron lighting.
Internal airport roads will connect the airport access road with its functional areas and will have two to six lanes.
A parking area of about 13,000–15,000 square meters is planned in front of the terminal. The project also includes power, water and drainage systems, fencing and auxiliary facilities.
On October 22, the Department of Construction sent a letter to the Air Defence and Air Force Command seeking approval to connect the civil section's technical infrastructure to the adjacent military airport.
The procedure is required because Phan Thiet Airport will use the same runway for its military and civil sections.
