Cold air spreads across northern Vietnam
Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said cold air reached the mountainous and midland areas of the northeastern region on the evening of October 4. Northern Vietnam saw showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy to very heavy rain.
On the night of October 4, the cold air was forecast to spread to other parts of the northeast, then reach some areas of the northwest and the region from Thanh Hoa to Hue.
The northeast and Thanh Hoa were expected to turn cooler from the evening of October 4, with colder conditions in some high mountain areas. Minimum temperatures across northern Vietnam and Thanh Hoa were forecast at 19–22 °C, and 14–17 °C in high mountains.
Hanoi was expected to have rain, locally heavy rain, and thunderstorms from the evening of October 4 through the morning of October 5. The weather would turn cooler near dawn.
From the evening of October 4 through October 5, rain, moderate showers, and thunderstorms were forecast for the northern delta, the northwest, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An. Some areas could receive heavy to very heavy rain. From the night of October 5 through October 6, Ha Tinh to Hue was expected to receive 40–80 mm of moderate to heavy rain, with local totals above 150 mm.
From the night of October 6 through October 7, Quang Tri to Da Nang and eastern Quang Ngai were forecast to receive 40–80 mm of moderate to heavy rain, with local totals above 200 mm. The heavy rain could continue in the following days.
Other areas were expected to see isolated showers and thunderstorms. Southern Vietnam and Lam Dong could have showers and scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and at night, with locally heavy rain.

Hanoi: Cloudy, with rain, locally heavy rain, and thunderstorms at night and in the morning, followed by isolated showers. Northeast winds at force 2–3. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. It will turn cooler near dawn. Temperatures will range from 21–23 °C, with highs of 24–26 °C.
Northwest: Cloudy, with rain, moderate rain, and scattered thunderstorms at night and in the morning. Some areas may receive heavy to very heavy rain, followed by isolated showers. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Cooler weather is expected, with some areas turning cold. Temperatures will range from 20–23 °C, locally below 20 °C, with highs of 24–27 °C.
Northeast: Cloudy, with rain, moderate rain, and scattered thunderstorms at night and in the morning. Some areas may receive heavy to very heavy rain, followed by isolated showers. Northeast winds at force 2–3, and force 3–4 along the coast. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Cooler weather is expected, with some mountain areas turning cold. Temperatures will range from 20–23 °C, locally below 20 °C in the mountains, with highs of 24–27 °C.
Thanh Hoa to Hue: Cloudy, with rain, moderate rain, and scattered thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain. The southern part may have isolated showers and thunderstorms at night. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Temperatures will range from 23–26 °C, with highs of 27–30 °C.
South Central Coast: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Temperatures will range from 24–27 °C, with highs of 30–33 °C.
Central Highlands: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Lam Dong may have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Temperatures will range from 21–24 °C, with highs of 29–32 °C.
Southern Vietnam: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Cloud cover will increase in the afternoon and at night, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and locally heavy rain. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Temperatures will range from 24–27 °C, with highs of 31–34 °C.
Ho Chi Minh City: Partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Cloud cover will increase in the afternoon and at night, with scattered showers and thunderstorms and locally heavy rain. Thunderstorms may bring whirlwinds, lightning, and strong gusts. Temperatures will range from 24–26 °C, with highs of 32–34 °C.
