The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a document on implementing the city People's Council's Resolution 96/2026 on investment policy for the Thu Duc canal renovation project in Thu Duc Ward.
The project has a total investment of VND 5.124 trillion and is scheduled to run from 2026 to 2031. It aims to address flooding around Thu Duc Market and nearby areas while improving the urban environment and landscape.
The project will renovate about 3 km of the Thu Duc and Nha Tra canals. The main works include canal renovation and dredging, roads on both sides, drainage and lighting systems, technical infrastructure, and a green park.
The pumping station at the tidal-control sluice near the Saigon River is expected to increase its capacity from 7,200 cubic metres per hour to about 120,000 cubic metres per hour. The increase is intended to improve drainage capacity. The authorities plan compensation and site clearance for about 15.7 hectares, affecting around 435 cases.
Under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee's instruction, the city's urban infrastructure project management board, the Thu Duc Ward People's Committee, the Department of Planning and Architecture, and relevant agencies must review and adjust the detailed zoning plan. The work must be completed before November 30 so that documents can be finalized and two component projects, compensation and construction, can be submitted for appraisal and approval in the fourth quarter of 2026.
For compensation, support, resettlement, and site clearance, the urban infrastructure project management board must coordinate closely with the Thu Duc Ward People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment. The aim is to keep the component projects synchronized and avoid overlap, additional costs, and waste of resources.
The Department of Construction was assigned to guide and support the investor in completing construction investment documents and procedures, and to urge the submission of the component projects for appraisal and approval in the fourth quarter of 2026. This will provide a basis for the Department of Finance to advise the relevant authorities on balancing and allocating funds in the 2027 public investment plan.
