From October 15, passengers on Ho Chi Minh City's Metro Line 1 between Ben Thanh and Suoi Tien will be able to buy tickets and use onboard services through the VNeID electronic identification app.
The service is being introduced by HURC1, the company operating Urban Railway No. 1, together with the Research and Application Center for Population Data and Citizen Identity, or RAR. The move is intended to expand payment options and make the metro easier for people in Ho Chi Minh City to use.
To make a purchase, users must open VNeID, find the “Transport services” section, select “Centralized transport platform” and then choose the “Metro” service.
The system offers several ticket types, including single tickets for travel between stations, one-day and three-day passes, and a standard monthly pass. After users scan the QR code to pay, an electronic ticket with a QR code appears in “My tickets”. Passengers scan it at the gates when entering and leaving stations.
The operator says each electronic ticket is valid for one passenger only. Monthly-pass users scan a chip-enabled identity card or citizen identity card at the station gates.
Passengers can call 1900.638.885 for support if they encounter problems during a transaction.
