A Ho Chi Minh City driver was fined for parking a car on a sidewalk after residents reported the violation. Traffic police identified the driver from the submitted images and asked him to come in for questioning.
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department recently said that Traffic Police Team No. 1 had increased its receipt, verification and handling of traffic violations reported by residents through photos and videos. Many violations happen for only a short time, making them difficult to detect and handle directly at the scene. The submitted material can help identify the vehicle and driver.
Driver called in over sidewalk parking
The duty officer at Traffic Police Team No. 1 received a report that a car had been parked on the sidewalk of To Huu Street in Tan Uyen Ward, taking up space intended for pedestrians.
After checking the report, police identified the driver as L.V.T, 31, who lives in Dong Nai City, and asked him to come in for questioning.
At the police station, the driver admitted that he had parked on the sidewalk in violation of the rules. Team No. 1 issued an administrative violation record. Under Point e, Clause 3, Article 6 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, the fine for the violation is VND 800,000 to VND 1 million.
In another case, traffic police called in a container-truck driver after residents reported sawdust spilling onto a road. On October 22, the duty officer at Team No. 1 received a report about a Ho Chi Minh City-registered container truck traveling on DT746 in Tan Hiep Ward. Sawdust was falling onto the road, creating a traffic safety risk and polluting the environment.
Using the information supplied by residents, police identified the driver as N.D.T, 32, who lives in Tay Ninh Province, and asked him to come in. At the police station, the driver admitted the violation and signed an administrative violation record for allowing cargo to fall from a container truck onto the road.
Under Point a, Clause 2, Article 17 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, as amended by Decree 238/2026/ND-CP, the fine for the violation is VND 2 million to VND 4 million.
Traffic police encourage residents to report violations
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department said that photos and videos supplied by residents help officers detect, verify and handle traffic violations.
Police separately warned about the danger of cargo falling onto roads, especially for motorcyclists. Dust, soil, stones or other cargo on the road can reduce visibility, cause drivers to lose control and lead to collisions or crashes.

The Traffic Police Department recommends that transport organizations and drivers check cargo before traveling, place, secure and cover it properly, and prevent it from falling onto the road.
Ho Chi Minh City traffic police will continue patrols and inspections and encourage residents to report traffic violations through photos and videos. Police said residents' cooperation helps detect and handle violations and improve road users' compliance.
