In September 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City traffic police department increased patrols and checks on roads and around schools, especially when students arrived for classes and left school.

The checks found more than 900 traffic violations by students. In 454 cases, students were not wearing helmets, while 321 cases involved operating a vehicle before reaching the permitted age.

The traffic police department said these violations create a risk of traffic crashes, especially for students who are not yet eligible to operate vehicles.

Checks continue outside schools, with parents held accountable

In addition to roadside enforcement, traffic police will work with commune-level police and other units to inspect parking areas inside and around schools.

The checks are intended to identify violations, remind people of the rules and prevent students from using vehicles that are not permitted for their age.

The Ho Chi Minh City traffic police department said traffic police and commune-level police will continue assigning teams to school gates during peak hours. They will direct traffic and handle violations that could lead to crashes.

When students violate the rules, officers will take action under the regulations and send notices to their schools so they can coordinate education and appropriate disciplinary measures.

Traffic police will also determine responsibility and strictly handle parents or vehicle owners who give vehicles to people who are not eligible to operate them.

Traffic law explained to more than 174,000 students and learners

Alongside enforcement, in September 2026, at the start of the new school year, the Ho Chi Minh City traffic police department conducted a campaign to explain traffic order and safety laws at educational institutions.

Officers held 155 information sessions attended by 174,705 school students, university students and other learners.

Participants were taught to recognize and assess dangerous situations on the road, practiced safe vehicle control and signed commitments to comply with the law.

The traffic police department said student road safety requires cooperation between law enforcement, families and schools, as well as greater personal responsibility from every student to comply with the law.
