Ho Chi Minh City has begun surveying land, homes and property to prepare for the Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City metro project.
The project is expected to pass through 18 wards
Along with the metro project linking New Binh Duong City and Suoi Tien, wards including Thuan Giao, Lai Thieu and Binh Duong have begun surveying and counting land for the Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City metro line, also known as Metro Line 2. The work has been carried out since around early October 2026.
A representative of Lai Thieu Ward said the planned site-clearance area in the ward is about 4 km long. The project is expected to affect 209 cases, covering about 70,900 square metres of land.
Officials are recording the condition of land, homes, construction works and property attached to the land. They are also checking documents with land users and comparing them with the actual conditions on site. Information requiring further verification is recorded for follow-up under the relevant rules.
The surveying and inventory will support procedures for land recovery and the preparation of compensation, assistance and resettlement plans. The process is intended to be transparent and protect the lawful rights and interests of residents whose land is affected.
In Binh Duong Ward, the relevant units are also surveying, measuring and inventorying land and property within the project area. The work includes recording current conditions and classifying land to be recovered and property attached to it.
According to the Binh Duong Ward People's Committee, households have cooperated with the work. The ward is continuing to coordinate the units involved and has asked residents to help complete the surveying and inventory.

Under the proposed route, the Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City metro line would pass through 18 wards: Binh Duong, Phu Loi, Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Thuan Giao, Lai Thieu, Binh Hoa, Tam Binh, Hiep Binh, Binh Loi Trung, Binh Quoi, Binh Thanh, Gia Dinh, Thanh My Tay, Saigon, Xuan Hoa, Ben Thanh and Ban Co.
The Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City metro line will be over 35 km long
According to documents posted for public consultation, the Thu Dau Mot - Ho Chi Minh City line is about 35.1 km long. It is being studied to connect the former central area of Binh Duong with central Ho Chi Minh City.
The line's starting point is planned to connect with Metro Line 1, on the New Binh Duong City - Suoi Tien section, in Binh Duong Ward. The endpoint would connect to Tao Dan Station, where it would meet Metro Line 2, Ben Thanh - Tham Luong.

The line is expected to have 24 stations, including 13 underground and 11 elevated stations. The Hiep Binh Phuoc depot, covering about 33 hectares, is planned for Tam Binh and Hiep Binh wards in Ho Chi Minh City.
The project is being studied as a double-track line with a 1,435 mm gauge and electric power. The maximum design speed is 100 km/h on elevated sections and 90 km/h underground.
The project also includes trains and mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, signalling, control and automated fare-collection systems.
