On October 28, Ho Chi Minh City’s Urban Railway Management Board sent a document asking 15 wards to carry out preparatory work for land acquisition, compensation, support and resettlement for the first phase of the Tan Son Nhat–Phu Huu metro project. The work includes surveying, measuring, inventorying land and determining its origin.
Preparing land data
The board asked the administrations of Tan Son Nhi, Tan Binh, Tay Thanh, Tan Son, Tan Son Hoa, Bay Hien, Tan Son Nhat, Duc Nhue, Hanh Thong, Binh Loi Trung, Hiep Binh, Thu Duc, Tang Nhon Phu, Phuoc Long and Long Truong to coordinate the work.
The local authorities were asked to survey the proposed acquisition areas, record their current condition, measure and inventory the land, compile statistics, classify the areas and record the assets attached to them. Determining the origin of the land and assets is also part of the preparation.

According to the railway board, this work can be carried out before the investment policy or investment project is approved. The collected data will support preparation of a compensation, support and resettlement plan once the project is ready to begin land acquisition procedures.
The document says that carrying out surveys, measurements and inventories in advance does not replace the legal procedure for land acquisition. It also does not replace a land acquisition decision or a decision approving a compensation, support and resettlement plan, and it does not affect land users’ lawful rights and interests.
The board also asked the wards to select and appoint by decision an organization qualified to handle compensation, support and resettlement work. If they cannot select a suitable organization, the local authorities should ask Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Agriculture and Environment for assistance and notify the railway board.
First phase of Tan Son Nhat–Phu Huu metro planned at more than 22 km
Under the plan, Metro Line 6 will form Ho Chi Minh City’s inner ring urban railway route. The full line could be up to 53.8 km long.
The first phase will be 22.85 km long, with preliminary investment estimated at about VND 86.529 trillion.
When completed, the project will connect parts of the city. It will intersect Metro Line 2, Ben Thanh–Tham Luong, at Ba Queo Station and pass all three terminals, T1, T2 and T3, of Tan Son Nhat Airport.
The line will also connect directly with the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh railway at the Phu Huu interchange, linking different high-quality transport modes in Ho Chi Minh City.
