Residents of a housing complex in Alley 741 off Giải Phóng Street in Hanoi's Tương Mai area held a farewell meal before families whose homes fall within the National Highway 1A expansion zone move away.
Residents cleaned the shared yard, arranged tables and prepared dishes. About 80 people attended, with 11 tables prepared for the meal.

Nguyễn Dũng, a resident of the alley, told Dân trí that his family has lived there for about 40 years. He said many families have been connected to the area for 40 or 50 years and wanted to spend time with their neighbours before moving.
Not every household in the complex will be relocated. Only homes within the road expansion boundary are affected. The residents did not yet know the exact moving date. Project boundaries have been marked, and local authorities have invited residents to meetings about land clearance.

Families are waiting for a resettlement plan and asking for appropriate compensation. A representative of the local residential group told the newspaper that residents generally support the road expansion but want to know the timetable and relocation terms in advance.
Construction of the southern Hanoi section of National Highway 1A began on May 19. It runs from Ring Road 1 to the Cau Gie interchange. Dân trí reported that the route is planned to be 90 metres wide with 16 lanes, with major works expected to be completed in 2027.
The project includes 10 lanes on the main road and six lanes on parallel roads. It runs through 18 wards and communes of Hanoi, with investment estimated at nearly VND162 trillion.
Nguyễn Dũng's home is outside the expansion boundary, but he said he was sorry to see neighbours move and asked authorities to protect the affected families' rights.
