Authorities reported details on the evening of October 19 after about 40 people in Hanoi were affected, reportedly by gas poisoning.
At about 2:40 p.m. the same day, Area 32's Firefighting and Rescue Team, under Hanoi police, received a report of an incident in Me Son village, Thuong Phuc commune.
The team sent one fire engine and six officers to the scene to spray water and dilute the chlorine.
Police said the incident was caused by chlorine leaking from a cylinder in a scrap pile belonging to N.H.D., born in 1979 and living in Me Son village, Hanoi. The leak poisoned about 40 people.

Of the 40 people affected, 38 are undergoing health checks at Thuong Tin General Hospital, while two are being treated at Bach Mai Hospital.
The Hanoi Department of Health directed Thuong Tin General Hospital to mobilize all necessary resources to treat the patients promptly. Specialized teams from Saint Paul, Duc Giang and Ha Dong hospitals were also sent to support Thuong Tin Hospital.
The Department of Health is also working with Bach Mai Hospital to find the best way to support the patients.
