Hai Phong ports handled 182.4 million tonnes of cargo in the first 10 months of 2026, completing 76.6% of the annual plan and rising 12.11% from the same period a year earlier.
The growth reflects a recovery in export-import operations and maritime trade. Major terminals are turning ships around faster, while technology is being used to manage warehouses and container yards.
Le Hong Quan, General Director of Hai Phong Port JSC, said the company is modernising management and operations, digitising cargo handling through ePort and Smart Gate, and using technology to manage berths, container yards and equipment.
At berths No. 3 and No. 4 of the Haiphong Port TIL International Terminal, or HTIT, the company is introducing a modern container operation management system. The system is being rolled out alongside upgrades to infrastructure, equipment, processes and staffing, with the aim of creating an international-standard smart port.
Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port, or TC-HICT, operates berths No. 1 and No. 2 in Lach Huyen. It can receive ships of up to 14,000 TEUs and serves intra-Asia and trans-Pacific routes. On October 15, it received Ocean Network Express’s ONE FANTASTIC, the largest container ship to call at the port since TC-HICT began operating.
Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, said 3,504 Vietnamese and foreign vessels entered or left the Hai Phong seaport area in September 2026 alone. Maritime safety remained stable, while legal outreach helped improve compliance. Coordination with state agencies and faster administrative procedures helped organisations and businesses address difficulties.
To complete its 2026 plan ahead of schedule, Hai Phong’s port system will focus resources on the two peak months at the end of the year. Priorities include keeping maritime channels safe, handling large container ships quickly, shortening customs clearance times and reducing congestion on routes linking terminals with national highways and expressways.
