Ho Chi Minh City's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) grew 9.06% in the first nine months of 2026, the highest rate in more than a decade.

On the morning of October 15, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a conference to review the city's socio economic development during the first nine months of 2026. The meeting also focused on measures to achieve double digit economic growth, carry out investment projects and stimulate demand in the city. Politburo member and Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Secretary Tran Luu Quang attended.

Opening the conference, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc said the city's economy had posted solid growth while the global and domestic economies faced difficulties.

According to Thanh Niên, the city's GRDP grew 9.06% in the first nine months. Ho Chi Minh City currently contributes 23.4% of Vietnam's GDP, accounts for 30% of total state budget revenue and has attracted $17.8 billion in foreign direct investment, equal to 30% of the country's total foreign investment.

Total state budget revenue exceeded VND 676.9 trillion during the nine months. That was about 84.2% of the estimate assigned by the central government and roughly 67% of the target of VND 1 quadrillion. Public investment disbursement reached about VND 111.5 trillion, or 75.5% of the plan, above the national average and supporting economic growth.

The city has identified 1,338 long delayed projects, construction works and land plots that require action. The projects are being handled in two phases. By the end of September 2026, the city had resolved obstacles for 669 of the 1,338 projects, or 50%. City departments and agencies are continuing to address the remaining 669 projects within their authority.

To meet its 10.2% growth target for 2026, the city needs growth of 13.23% in the fourth quarter, Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc said. He called on businesses to speed up investment disbursement and implement projects they have committed to. The city will continue to help businesses resolve difficulties and create conditions for faster project implementation, contributing to overall growth.

The head of Ho Chi Minh City's administration called on the conference to focus on four main areas: increasing budget revenue and unlocking resources, speeding up public investment disbursement, removing obstacles to projects, and accelerating large projects run by businesses.
