Authorities in Dong Thap Province have approved a four-year project to expand about 25.88 km of Route 30. The project will cost more than VND 1.455 trillion.

On October 31, the Dong Thap People's Committee said it had approved the investment policy for the project and assigned the Transport Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor. More than VND 1.455 trillion will come from the central and provincial budgets.

Under the approved plan, the section will begin at the road leading to the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway in Thanh Hung Commune and end at the An Binh interchange in My Tra Ward. It will pass through Thanh Hung, My Hiep, Binh Hang Trung and My Tho in Dong Thap Province.

The Group B project will upgrade the existing national highway, whose asphalt road surface is currently about 7 meters wide on average, to the standards of a Class III road in the delta. The design calls for a 12-meter-wide roadbed and an 11-meter-wide asphalt surface. Longitudinal drainage systems will also be built in densely populated sections, along with road safety facilities.

The Route 30 expansion has been identified as one of the important infrastructure projects intended to implement Dong Thap's provincial plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. It is also linked to development goals in the resolution of the provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.

The route is expected to connect the former Tien Giang area, including My Tho, Cai Be and An Huu, with Cao Lanh and other key economic areas of the former Dong Thap Province. The connection is intended to link agricultural, industrial, trade and service production areas and gradually form an integrated transport and logistics chain.

Once completed, Route 30 will have stronger connections with the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong - My Thuan and Cao Lanh - An Huu expressways, National Highway 1 and provincial roads. It will also connect inland areas of Dong Thap Muoi with the economic corridor along the Tien River and the border area, expand room for urban, trade and service development, attract investment and promote regional links.
