On November 4, Vietnam's Ministry of Health announced the appointment of Bach Mai Hospital director, associate professor and doctor Dao Xuan Co as deputy health minister.
At the ceremony, Health Minister Dao Hong Lan welcomed the ministry's new deputy minister and praised Dao Xuan Co's career and contributions to the health sector.
The minister said the new deputy minister had built his career in local medical facilities and at Bach Mai Hospital, one of the country's leading hospitals. He also worked through several important periods for the health sector, including the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The minister praised the drive for innovation, creativity, determination and willingness to act shown by Dao Xuan Co and the Bach Mai Hospital team. The hospital introduced information technology and digital solutions in treatment and hospital management, and applied new methods and techniques to improve patient care.
One notable achievement was taking over and opening Bach Mai Hospital's facility in Ninh Binh province. During its first four months, the facility provided examinations and treatment to about 175,000 people.

The minister also noted changes at Bach Mai Hospital, from professional standards to staff attitudes toward patients. The hospital has actively pursued scientific research, coordinated support across the health system and assisted lower-level and local medical facilities, helping to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment at partner institutions.
Speaking after his appointment, new Deputy Health Minister Dao Xuan Co said he was moved and honored to receive the new responsibility with the trust of the Party, the state and the government.
“This is not only a personal honor but also a major responsibility to the Party, the state, the health sector and, above all, the people,” the new deputy minister said.
He thanked former leaders, officials and staff of Bach Mai Hospital, where he had worked, developed professionally and overcome difficulties with his colleagues.
Dao Xuan Co also thanked residents, patients and patients' families for their trust, support and companionship with Bach Mai Hospital.
“I have always believed that the people's trust is the most valuable asset of the health sector. Preserving and strengthening that trust is the highest responsibility of every doctor and health-sector leader,” Dao Xuan Co said.
He stressed that the appointment was not a final destination but the start of a new stage with greater demands and responsibility. Dao Xuan Co said he hoped people would have greater trust in the health sector, doctors would take greater pride in their profession, and the sector would become a reliable support for the people.

Following the appointment, Vietnam's Ministry of Health has five deputy ministers: standing deputy minister Vu Manh Ha, Do Xuan Tuyen, Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Le Duc Luan and new deputy minister Dao Xuan Co.
