Road surface opened, repairs unfinished
Residents and drivers using the Ho Chi Minh Highway through Kham Duc commune in Da Nang say several sections were drilled and broken up but not restored. Thanh Niên reported that the situation has lasted for months, making travel on the already deteriorated road more difficult.
Between Lao Du hamlet and the border with Ben Giang commune, concrete sections are broken and uneven, with deep holes and height differences. Other parts of the road also have potholes and damaged surfaces.

Motorcyclists have to slow down and steer around the damaged areas. Rain and oncoming trucks reduce visibility, while the unrepaired sections increase the risk of skidding or losing control.
Tran Vu Hau, 56, a Kham Duc resident, said traffic had been relatively manageable before the work began. After contractors drilled and broke the surface, many places were left unfinished for months.
Authorities cite equipment and material shortages
Ho Cong Diem, chairman of Kham Duc's People's Committee, said local authorities had repeatedly received complaints about the slow work. He said contractors should work in stages, finish each section they open and maintain traffic safety.
A representative of Road Management Area III said three construction packages were under way. Contractors had concentrated machinery at nearby locations and could not work on all sections at once.

The representative said the contractor had only one machine crew and decided to excavate the road while it was available. The road management unit also cited a shortage of stone, saying local quarries cannot meet demand for large projects.
The highway through Da Nang and Quang Ngai has been in service for nearly 20 years. In late 2025, Vietnam's road authority proposed strengthening the surface and repairing dangerous sections across three stretches totaling about 65 kilometers, including more than 15 kilometers through Kham Duc and more than 26 kilometers through Phuoc Nang commune in Da Nang.
